Please encourage your son/daughter to apply for the Bulldog Community Excellence Grant. This grant is offered by the BHS Alumni Association to one Junior or a team of Juniors allowing them the opportunity to design their own non-profit charity project and run it this Summer/Fall. Recipients will be given a financial stipend to execute their project and a BHS Alumni mentor to pair with to help them succeed. Deadline to apply is May 7 - more information can be found on the BHS website under the "Alumni" tab or by emailing BedfordHighSchoolAlumni@gmail.com  

I want to make the community aware that a game known as Assassins is being played by students out in the community.  It is a live-action game in which players try to eliminate one another using mock weapons, in an effort to become the last surviving player. The very nature of the game makes it look suspicious to anyone who doesn't know you're playing a game.

This is not a school sponsored or endorsed game and we strongly discourage student involvement because of the potential for accidents and the heightened anxiety about recent shootings. This has typically been a Junior class game.

State SAT Make-up Info

For those students who are making up the SAT please note the following- They will take place this Tuesday, the 10th at the SAU office at 103 County Rd. In order for the testing environment to remain uninterrupted by the sounds of a typical school day (i.e. bells, announcements, etc.) we will administer the assessment at this off-site location. We will meet in the conference room- the door is on the right.

The mandatory AP registration session will take place after break on Wednesday, May 2nd in the Commons. All students who are taking one AP exam or more need to attend. Students need to go to Advisory for attendance first, then leave immediately to attend the session in the commons.

Scholarship Season has arrived!!!  We have created a instructional video for students applying to scholarships, as well as a google form that needs to be completed for each scholarship students apply to.  These items are located here: https://goo.gl/flfyJW.

You will find a comprehensive list of scholarships on Naviance, HOWEVER, you cannot apply or request supporting documents through Naviance (this is informational only).  Local scholarships tend to have better odds, so apply to them!!  

As we begin to wind down the school year, please check with your student for overdue library materials. All library accounts must be cleared before the end of school.

IB Exams start after April Vacation. A detailed explanation of exam policies, procedures and expectations, including the attendance expectations was emailed to all students registered for exams, their parents, and staff. Click here to view the IB Exam policies and expectations.

Hosting Opportunity-French Exchange 2018-2019

French teachers are currently sharing information in their classes about participating in the French Exchange next year.  The students from France will be hosted in the fall of 2018 in Bedford and the BHS students will stay with the same family in the spring of 2019 during Intersession.  For families that would only like to host, the group from France often needs additional host homes

Congratulations to the Math Team!  Second place in our league and second place for the state!

Bedford DI is excited to welcome teams from across the state to the Destination Imagination State Tournament at Bedford High School this Saturday, April 7th.  Over 100 teams will bring their solutions to STEM challenges, including the Arts and Community Service Projects. BHS has 4 teams participating on Saturday including, DI of the Storm, who will present their service project, Inside Impact.  This team worked tirelessly over these past few months on replacing the styrofoam trays in the cafeteria with compostable trays. They laid the groundwork that prompted a warrant article that appeared in the recent town election and their initiative got a huge yes vote.  Everyone is welcome to come support the 10 teams from Bedford DI. 2018-19 School Calendar

The School Board has approved the 2018-19 School Calendar. Please note that there is a substantial change for 2018-19. The district will shift from tracking days to tracking hours. As a result, the last day of school for 2018-19 will be no later than June 13and could be as early as June 6. The first five snow days, if needed, will be made up by students at the end of the year. Any snow days beyond five days will not need to be made up by students. This should bring some more predictability to the end of the year for families.

APRIL SPEAKER SERIES EVENT:

“YOU’VE BEEN SERVED:  SOCIAL LIABILITY & TEEN ALCOHOL USE”

Monday, April 16th from 7-8pm at the Bedford Public Library in the McAllaster Room.  

This event is open to all adults.

Attention Parents! -  Hosting a teen party? Your teen promised you there would be no alcohol; but did you check?  What about those teens attending the party; did you check to see if they brought alcohol? Or, are you hosting a teen party and allowing alcohol?  Think it’s okay if teens have a few beers while you take their keys? Going away on a short vacation and leaving your responsible high schooler at home? Do you keep alcohol in your home?

Find out about these scenarios and how you could be putting yourself at risk for lawsuits or even criminal prosecution.  

This presentation will be led by Chief John Bryfonski, of Bedford Police Department and will also feature Prosecutor Bill Thornton and LT Michael Bernard, of Bedford Police Department.

Also in this presentation you will "learn the numbers" of teens who reported they regularly consumed alcohol or rode in a motor vehicle with someone who consumed alcohol.  You will also find out how current Bedford teens "stack up" against previous youth risk behavior surveys. Learn about the "markers" for alcohol abuse and addiction and find out if you could be "flipping the switch" by serving alcohol to a young teen.  Don’t miss this informative presentation!

The 40-minute presentation will be followed by a 20-minute question and answer.
