Bedford DI Rocked at the Destination Imagination State Tournament
Bedford DI took home 9 of the top spots at the State Destination Imagination tournament in Bedford High School on
April 7th. Teams had already presented at regional tournaments in Hampton, Swanzey and Goffstown to qualify for States. Teams presented solutions to challenges in many areas of STEM, as well as arts and community services projects. DI of the Storm from, took 1st place in the Project Outreach challenge, Inside Impact. This group of freshman were successful in getting the yes vote for the warrant article on the ballot, to replace the styrofoam trays with compostable trays in the Bedford school cafeterias. They also received the seldom given Torchbearer's Award.
"This award is given for Project Outreach projects that have had an extraordinary impact in and beyond their local community."
BHS had two other wins by The Sit Down Commedians and O' D'Irony. Teams are now organizing many fundraisers to help offset the cost of getting to the Global Finals in Knoxville, TN next month and appreciate your support.
Attention Parents of Juniors:
Please encourage your son/daughter to apply for the Bulldog Community Excellence Grant. This grant is offered by the BHS Alumni Association to one Junior or a team of Juniors allowing them the opportunity to design their own non-profit charity project and run it this Summer/Fall. Recipients will be given a financial stipend to execute their project and a BHS Alumni mentor to pair with to help them succeed. Deadline to apply is May 7 - more information can be found on the BHS website under the "Alumni" tab or by emailing BedfordHighSchoolAlumni@gmail.

- If you have lost clothing, coats, bags, books, etc. please look in the bins located by the concession stand in the Gym hall.

The mandatory AP registration session will take place after break on Wednesday, May 2nd in the Commons. All students who are taking one AP exam or more need to attend. Students need to go to Advisory for attendance first, then leave immediately to attend the session in the commons.
Students are expected to bring #2 pencils, CB approved calculators if required, and a pen to the exam. NO CELLS PHONES, or Backpacks in the testing room. Students may bring a snack and a drink for breaks.
There will only be bussing for the following AP exams: AP English Literature and AP US History. Bussing for both exams will leave BHS at 7:40 AM (main doors of BHS). For all other AP exams, students are responsible for transportation to and from St. Elizabeth Seton Activity Center. Students are expected to be in class when they are not testing (AM exams - come back for 4th block, PM exams - students should be attending 1st block, Advisory, and 2nd block, grabbing lunch at the start of third block, then leave for St. Elizabeth Seton).

You will find a comprehensive list of scholarships on Naviance, HOWEVER, you cannot apply or request supporting documents through Naviance (this is informational only). Local scholarships tend to have better odds, so apply to them!!

As we begin to wind down the school year, please check with your student for overdue library materials. All library accounts must be cleared before the end of school.
YEARBOOK Information
Only 72 yearbooks are left to buy! First come- first serve.
From the Nursing Department: Please make sure that your son/daughter has their emergency medications with them for intersession. For example, asthma inhalers, EpiPen’s, medication and supplies for diabetes management. These medications are the only medications that a student may carry.
Please provide prescription medications for intersession teachers in a clearly labeled prescription medication bottle. Clear instructions by a parent regarding the medication should be written on the field trip form for the teacher, as well. Please make arrangements with the designated teacher to drop off the medication directly to them. The nursing office will not accept medication for field trips dropped off by parents.
As a reminder, any student with a severe life threatening allergy should have their allergy action plan and EpiPen in the nurse’s office. If your son/daughter carries their EpiPen please remember to check the expiration date. Allergy action plans need to be updated each school year.
Any student who has asthma should have an asthma action plan filled out by the doctor. If they are carrying their inhaler, please check the expiration date on the inhaler periodically. Please provide an extra inhaler for the nursing office, if possible. Asthma action plans also need to be updated each year. All forms can be found in the nursing office or on any of the school websites.

Hosting Opportunity-French Exchange 2018-2019
French teachers are currently sharing information in their classes about participating in the French Exchange next year. The students from France will be hosted in the fall of 2018 in Bedford and the BHS students will stay with the same family in the spring of 2019 during Intersession. For families that would only like to host, the group from France often needs additional host homes

Model UN
From Friday, 4/6 through Sunday, 4/8, 16 students from BHS Model UN participated in Dartmouth College's Model United Nations program (DartMUN XIII). Delegates collaborated, compromised, and utilized the numerous opportunities available to highlight their public speaking skills. These students worked very hard in preparation for the conference as well, writing position papers that detailed their country's position on the issues at hand in the committee and using researched information and thoughtful analysis. During the time students spent both in and out of committee, they continued that hard work. As always, they represented BHS well, demonstrating maturity, enthusiasm, and dedication.
We had several Bulldogs who received special recognition at the conference. They earned:

A typical New England Spring with cold rain, wind, and still snow … Yep - during our first home outdoor track meet on Tuesday, the Bulldog track and turf turned white quickly! With temperature elements seemingly well below average our athletes would attest that it certainly makes all of it a slow start for sports, but our Spring season is fully underway! Please come out and support our teams despite the capricious behavior of Mother Nature or is it Old Man Winter who is really holding on?

Presidential Volunteer Service Awards
Any student interested in being eligible for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award must have their Community Service hours submitted to their Advisors by April 20th, 2018.

2018-19 School Calendar
The School Board has approved the 2018-19 School Calendar. Please note that there is a substantial change for 2018-19. The district will shift from tracking days to tracking hours. As a result, the last day of school for 2018-19 will be no later than June 13 and could be as early as June 6. The first five snow days, if needed, will be made up by students at the end of the year. Any snow days beyond five days will not need to be made up by students. This should bring some more predictability to the end of the year for families.

Some of our parents have asked for an explanation of our Gsuite, the tools within Chrome our students now use for much of their school work. Our technology
teachers have developed this Gsuite Information for Parents.

Attention Parents! - Hosting a teen party? Your teen promised you there would be no alcohol; but did you check? What about those teens attending the party; did you check to see if they brought alcohol? Or, are you hosting a teen party and allowing alcohol? Think it’s okay if teens have a few beers while you take their keys? Going away on a short vacation and leaving your responsible high schooler at home? Do you keep alcohol in your home?
Find out about these scenarios and how you could be putting yourself at risk for lawsuits or even criminal prosecution.
This presentation will be led by Chief John Bryfonski, of Bedford Police Department and will also feature Prosecutor Bill Thornton and LT Michael Bernard, of Bedford Police Department.
Also in this presentation you will "learn the numbers" of teens who reported they regularly consumed alcohol or rode in a motor vehicle with someone who consumed alcohol. You will also find out how current Bedford teens "stack up" against previous youth risk behavior surveys. Learn about the "markers" for alcohol abuse and addiction and find out if you could be "flipping the switch" by serving alcohol to a young teen. Don’t miss this informative presentation!

Hear her story and LEARN what you need to know from someone from our community who started drinking at age 14 and by age 16 was injecting heroin.
